Messi Launches “Messi Cup” in Miami — A Tournament to Unearth His Successor

Lionel Messi has unveiled a bold new venture: the Messi Cup, a youth tournament taking place in Miami from December 9 to 14, designed to spotlight tomorrow’s football stars.

A Gathering of Elite Youth Academies

Messi announced the tournament on Instagram, sharing his enthusiasm over what lies ahead:

“I can finally tell you that this December a very special youth tournament is coming to Miami, featuring some of the best clubs in the world. There will also be many more activities that week. I hope you like it!”

Eight Under-16 squads will compete: Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Manchester City, River Plate, Inter Milan, Newell’s Old Boys, Chelsea, and Inter Miami.

Matches will be held across Inter Miami’s facilities, including Chase Stadium and the Florida Blue Training Center. The format divides teams into two groups; each team plays at least three matches before the knockout rounds. The final and third-place match will take place on December 14 at Chase Stadium.

Beyond the Game: Messi’s Legacy Project

More than just a tournament, the Messi Cup is envisioned as Messi’s bridge between what he has achieved and what is to come in football’s next generation.

Through this project, Messi seeks to:

  • Nurture and promote youth talent
  • Cement his influence off the pitch, especially in the U.S.
  • Strengthen the ties among clubs central to his career — from Newell’s and Barcelona to MLS’s Inter Miami

Though he’s already secured a place in football history, Messi now sets out on a different mission: to help discover the star who might one day follow in his footsteps.
